Of Bugs and Birds
Recently I've been using the extension tubes a lot more to enlarge very small things. Tubes allow for some interesting compositions and lend themselves very well to tiny intricate plants.
Some of these shots were taken indoor with flash. Most were taken outdoors at a marsh.
Usually I look for birds at the marsh, but arriving early in the morning, I noticed the dew made things look very vibrant and exposed many spider webs that become invisible later in the day.

Mixed macro
For some reason, many macro photos I shoot tend to stand on their own rather than fitting into a story of any sort. I shoot macros regularly, sometimes when something catches my eye during a hike, other times I go indoors and set up a backdrop with multiple light sources. Here's a few recent shots of different things.
In some cases, extension tubes, strobes and a tripod are used with telephoto or macro lenses, in other cases I just rely on a macro lens to take the shot. Either way, it always impresses me when I can see full frame images of very intricate subjects.

Hanging out with Marshians
The weekend weather forecast was calling for heat and thunder storms, so of course it made perfect sense to leave the city early and spend Friday in a marsh.
If you've followed this blog for long you'll know that Tiny Marsh is a place I keep going back to over and over. The marsh has so many moods, depending on the season, time of day and weather.
Friday's trip was a nice break. I managed to scare off a number of herons and a bittern.
Eventually I turned my attentions to shooting different things including bugs and plant life. The camera was mounted on a tripod, and close-up photos were taken using a number of telephoto lenses along with extension tubes.
